A quick note to say that I'm currently involved in meetings with publishers with the distinct possibility of printing Philip & The Stove. It's proved to be an interesting process but it looks like the book will be published as I originally intended it to be (without any text). For now I've taken down chapters 1-4. If/When published the book will contain chapter 5 which is 10 pages short of completion.
Even if I self publish the book next year I will add all details here on this blog. Thanks for visiting!

ReplyDeleteFor some strange reason I can't create any new posts here- the only way to carry on is in the form of one large post like this.
Dude this is AMAZING. Beautiful color and design work throughout. Will this be published somewhere?
ReplyDeleteHello Bill- I would hope it could be printed one day in a small simple format-we will have to see if it's worthy!
ReplyDeleteLove this. Fun story. Keep up the good work dude!
ReplyDeletewhy are you posting upside down? it's impossible to follow you by rss... :-(
ReplyDeleteSorry Josef- that must be annoying. I think it makes more sense posted this way (which isn't upside down I believe)
ReplyDeleteSorry
Matt
Some rich fungusy goodness going on in that second from bottom piece, excellent.
ReplyDeleteGood Chapter 4. At first, I thought that the waunderer came out of the cave into winter, since everything was so blue ... but the sunrise soon corrected my error.
ReplyDeleteI loved the large tree. It seemed to have a face and I was almost expecting it to talk or act (à la Lord of the Rings). Finally, the bull's eye landscape creates a strong sense of foreboding. I can't wait for the next scenes.
Great work. I'd love to see this in print!
My boys and I have been "secretly" following this story for a while -- I love your perspective. So inspiring! Can't wait to see what comes next.
ReplyDeleteMichael- Thanks for the reaction. There's a gap in the story at the end that deals with the seasons, if it feels right to go in then it will. The fact that it's currently set in high summer is integral to the story. Thanks for your comment!
ReplyDeleteDeanna - I like secret followers and wonder aloud who actually visits, it's half the fun. I'm so pleased your boys (children I assume?!) are following, I hope to make a story that I would've enjoyed whilst growing up.
AT last -the lair of the mushroom folk. He's a funghi!
ReplyDeleteSecret Follower # 1138
To me it looks like a paradise for mushroom eating vegetarians.
ReplyDeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteIs it published?

ReplyDeleteAt last! There's the wee fella!
ReplyDeleteReminds me of a DVD I bought once from a Chinese fellow in a pub in Ealing.
ReplyDeleteAmazing!
ReplyDeleteI still think you could make more of the stag!
ReplyDeleteVery impressive! Thanks for colors, shadows, story, raven's hat and especially for that quirky blob on a giant tree! Greetings from Russia)
ReplyDeleteAmazing, Crookie!!!
ReplyDeleteHa! Perhaps Oscar-but only in places.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks- welcome home, see you for food, beer and verbal intercourse this week I hope!
Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit! You brought it all together beautifully but now I've gotta super-size them & drag them all to my desktop all over again! I'll wait for the printed book methinks . . .
ReplyDeleteso they DO have the internet in Wales...........
ReplyDeleteHi Matthew!
ReplyDeleteI just want you to know I love this!!! I cant stop looking at those beautiful pictures...
greetings from Germany
Guten Tag Franziska,
ReplyDeleteHaben Sie vielen Dank!
I've decided to break my silence and shed the skin of the observer/non-commenter for a second. AMAZING! Great work man!
ReplyDeleteAlso as well as having internet in Wales, I hear they get channel 4 and 5 now!
Welcome Ashley-thank you!!!
ReplyDeleteWill you publish this at some point?
ReplyDeleteMagical, original, I love this story. Shades of shaggy, friendly, tale-spinning men who drifted through my childhood :)
ReplyDeleteIs the story over, or are you going to publish the end anytime soon?
ReplyDeleteI have to say I found the story much stronger without words. In my opinion the text pannels are redundant: They don't add anything to the story, everything is already in the images! So they mainly slow down the process of reading...
Thanks Josef- it's a format we're trying (with some text). I agree with you, I'm not sure about the words and ideally would like it printed without text.
ReplyDeleteWe're trying a few publishers so for the moment I'm not posting the final chapter online. But if I can't get it printed then I may show the final chapter here. There's another 20 odd pages.
This is awesome. Hope you make lots of picture books for me to buy!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely brilliant Matthew, they are very appealing.
ReplyDeleteAMAZING :D..... why dont u try animation on it
ReplyDeleteThe music of your video is too modern for my taste...For what age group is that music?
ReplyDeleteEh?
ReplyDeleteThe music is for the age group 99-103. Do you think I should refine it a bit more?
ReplyDeleteIn 34 years you will love it!
hi! love the story, i´ve been following it for a while =)
ReplyDeleteif i may say tough, i liked the previous mute quality of the story. The images are so strong... no words required. It adds to the mistery and its so fun to try and figure out what´s going on.
anyways, great job! curious about the end =)
hugs from brazil
really beautyfull and cool, i love it.
ReplyDeletefrom spain...
Love this super fun story. Keep it up!
